Euro Cup 2012 Tips & Predictions: Denmark UEFA Euro 2012 Odds

UEFA Euro 2012 Predictions: Group of Death Is Graveyard For Denmark: There aren’t many teams Euro 2012 that we really think has absolutely zero chance of claiming the title. Denmark though, is one of those teams. The Danes certainly don’t have the most talented team in the world, and now, if they are going to make for great Euro 2012 picks, they are going to have to come through the Group of Death and overcome some of the best teams in the world.

In fairness to the Danes, they are the No. 9 ranked team in the world in the FIFA World Rankings. That being said, they are easily considered the weakest team of this foursome even though Portugal is ranked No. 10. What we don’t see out of Denmark though, is the ability to put together massive games against the best of the world. We have seen Denmark’s record inflated thanks to some big matches in qualifying, not the least of which was a 2-1 win at home over this same Portuguese side that put the Danes in Euro 2012. Going against Germany and the Netherlands though, just might not cut it, as even if there are three points against Portugal, something that we don’t think is going to happen.

Denmark Euro 2012 Schedule
Saturday June 9th: Netherlands vs. Denmark 12:00 p.m. (ET) (ESPN)
Wednesday, June 13th: Denmark vs. Portugal 12:00 p.m. (ET) (ESPN)
Sunday, June 17th: Denmark vs. Germany 2:45 p.m. (ET) (ESPN2)

Manager Morten Olsen really hasn’t come into this tournament with a set 11 guys that he intends on trotting out to the pitch on a daily basis. What we know is that there is some talent on this side offensively, but at times it is awfully inconsistent. One of the leaders of this team, Dennis Rommedahl expects to play a bit of a role, just as he did in qualifying for this event, but the future of the offense is going to lie in the hands of 24-year old Nicklas Bendtner, who plays his club soccer for Arsenal.

Elsewhere, there are some real troubles in the midfield. The team’s captain, Christian Poulsen is likely going to be a reserve at the outset of this tournament. He is 32 years old now, and the team needs to get younger in this area, and that could leave the door open for others like Christian Eriksen and Lasse Schone, both of which play for Ajax Amsterdam, to be in the rotation. Defensively, Daniel Agger is going to be the man that has the pressure on his back. Stephan Andersen figures to do the majority of the work in net after replacing the veteran of the team, Thomas Sorensen, who was the staple in the pipes prior to Euro 2012.

The first match for Andersen in net was a big one, as he was able to shut out Australia 2-0 in a friendly match just a week ago. It was a huge accomplishment for a man that was taking over for a legend. That being said though, Sorensen just wasn’t getting the job done, allowing five goals in two home fixtures against Russia and Brazil leading up to this tournament. The big question that we have for the Danes is how they are going to play in de facto road matches in Euro 2012. They haven’t played a match as the visitors since going to Cyprus in October 2011 for the end of Euro 2012 qualifying, and the match before that was way back in August for a friendly against Scotland, a match that was lost 2-1.

Denmark 2012 Euro Championship Tips & Predictions: There is a reason that Denmark is tied as the longest shot on the board on the odds to win Euro 2012 at BetOnline.com at 80 to 1. With all of the powerful teams in this group and all of the uncertainty on the roster, it is just really difficult to see this team even advancing out of the Group of Death. Just to get out of Group B, Denmark is a +450 underdog, the longest odds of any of the 16 teams to make it to the quarterfinals. Denmark is 15 to 1 to win Group B, something that we know has virtually zero chance of actually happening.
