Ireland European Cup 2012: Euro 2012 Odds & Group C Predictions

Ireland Euro 2012: Irish Eyes Might Smile in Group C: Ireland is ranked just No. 18 in the world in the FIFA World Rankings, but on the Euro 2012 odds, they are going against a bunch of teams that have similar standings. It could be an interesting set of matches for sure in Group C for Ireland, as it tries to make some noise on the Euro 2012 betting lines.

Spain is the one team that the Irish probably don’t have all that much of a chance of taking out. That being said, they are going to be in a spot to able to get the job done against the rest of the teams in this group, though it is just as possible to think that zero points could come for the Irish efforts in the first three matches of this tournament.

What we do see out of the boys in green are a lot of names that are familiar to European soccer fans. Shay Given has been a net minder in the Premier League for quite some time, and he has already made 122 appearances for his country. John O’Shea, Damien Duff, and Robbie Keane are all players that we are used to seeing as well. Aside from that though, there really isn’t a heck of a lot of quality out there for the Irish, though the team is getting a heck of a lot stronger as the years go by.

Keane could be a bit of an interesting case for Ireland. He hasn’t been playing a full season domestically, knowing that the MLS campaign just started, and he is one of the few players that are going to be in this competition that are playing their club soccer in the United States. Kevin Doyle could join him up front, knowing that the Wolverhampton striker has an eye for goal for his country. Keep an eye on Aiden McGeady and Glenn Whelan in this tournament as well, as they are two of the most capped players on the team.

The argument could be made that the Irish eyes were already smiling in the play-in for this tournament. Ireland could have ended in a much worse spot, playing against a team like Portugal, but instead, it was Estonia that was on the slate after finishing second in the group stage. The Estonians just never were a threat, especially when they were crushed with two red cards in that first playoff match at home, and the four goals were never answered, as the Irish moved on to Euro 2012. Since then, Ireland has only played three preparation matches, and most have looked rather lifeless. A 1-1 draw against the Czech Republic was a solid result, and the other two fixtures featured a 1-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina and a scoreless draw on the road at Hungary.

Ireland 2012 Euro Championship Tips & Euro 2012 Betting Odds: BetOnline Sportsbook is featuring the Irish at +1400 to win Group C, and that might be a nice price to back. The team is also +400 to get out of the first round. Obviously, all of those prices are going to change based upon this first match against Croatia, the biggest match of the tournament for both sides. Still, aren’t willing to count out the Irish, knowing that the rest of this group aside from Spain is very much so up in the air.
