2012 Olympics Medal Predictions: Sweden vs. France Tips & Picks 8/3/12

Olympics Women’s Soccer Sweden vs. France: Swedes To Pull Off Upset Of French: The women’s quarterfinals on the soccer Olympics schedule continues on Friday morning at Hampden Park, where one of the hotter teams in this tournament, France is going to take on a Swedish side that has really been struggling on both sides of the pitch. Both of these teams are incredibly talented though, and there is no doubt whatsoever that this is a battle on the soccer betting lines that you aren’t going to want to miss out on.

Following an opening match win against South Africa, it really wasn’t a great jaunt through Group F for the Swedes. They did end up topping the group because of that overwhelming 4-1 victory over the African side, but draws in successive matches against Canada and Japan really didn’t do a heck of a lot for the team. Meanwhile, France did pretty much exactly what it was supposed to do, taking care of business against North Korea and Colombia in Group G, but falling to the United States. Still, that game against the Stars and Stripes was one that turned heads right at the outset of this tournament, and the fact that Les Bleus were up 2-0 in that match before conceding four definitely shows that this is a team that has a heck of a lot of talent and can be quite dangerous.

It’s going to be interesting to see whether the Swedes are going to be able to really man the fort against the French attack. Japan is normally a defensive side that doesn’t show a heck of a lot of attack, so that nil-nil final score really shouldn’t be all that surprising. However, we definitely wonder whether the three goals allowed to the combination of Canada and South Africa is a sign of things to come for Sweden. Hedvig Lindahl has already allowed three goals, and she just hasn’t looked all that sharp. On the other end of the pitch, there are six goals to be spoken of, but the two against Canada are really the only two that mattered all that much. Lotta Schelin has clearly been the best attacker of the bunch up front, accounting for eight shots in this tournament, three of which have hit the target, and two of which found the back of the net. It seems like it is time to see Caroline Seger, who has six shots, get on the stat sheet, and she might be one to watch if she can get into the French back with some open space on Friday.

With a whopping 55 shots taken in just three matches, France has the most attempts at target in the Olympics thus far. The combination of Marie-Laure Delie and Louisa Necib up front has been an attacking force for sure, as both have 11 strikes. Necib has yet to score, but she has had a heck of a lot to do in the success of both Delie and Elodie Thomas, both of which have a pair of goals up front. A fourth striker, Gaetane Thiney also has eight shots, though only one, a goal, has come at net. At the back, the defense has had a tendency of being a little thin, especially when you consider the fact that two of the women on the back line have goals already in this tournament. For now, Sarah Bouhaddi has maintained herself for the most part in net, as the only match that Les Bleus conceded a goal in thus far came against the USA when four found the twine.

Sweden vs. France Match Preview & Analysis: In the end, we have to remember that it was only a year ago that these two teams met in the Third Place Game in the World Cup. Sweden was able to get that one by a goal. We think that there is a massive overreaction to the fact that the French have played so well in the group stage, especially with that early advantage against the USA. However in the end, we just don’t know if the level of competition that France faced was nearly as good as that of the Swedes in the first round, taking on Canada and Japan along with South Africa. Go with Sweden to pull off the upset and to get into the semifinals of the Olympics Women’s Soccer Tournament.

Euro 2012 Betting Tips: Who Will Win Spain vs. France Match?

Soccer Betting Tips for Euro 2012: Expect Defense To Rule For France vs. Spain: In what might amount to be the best of the Euro 2012 fixtures to date, France will take on Spain at Donbass Arena on Saturday night. These two sides are clearly amongst the best in the world, and they both have a very similar style of play that could make for a great match. Don’t miss our Euro Cup quarterfinals picks for the duel featuring Spain vs. France with a spot in the semifinals on the line!

Spain and France both looked like they were going to coast into the second round of Euro 2012 after both had four points to show for their work in their first two matches of play in their respective groups. That being said, the Spanish knew that they ran into some problems against a stingy Croatian team that nearly send them out of the tournament in shocking form in Group C. France ended up getting some help along the way from its rivals from England in the form of a Three Lions win over Ukraine, but in the end, a 2-0 loss to Sweden definitely wasn’t the way that Les Bleus wanted to go into the quarterfinals, as it set up this brutal match against La Roja instead of getting Italy.

Spain’s defense is always one of the best in the world, and we have seen that over the course of the last two international tournaments. La Roja only conceded a single goal to Antonio Di Natale against Italy in the opening match of this tournament, and since that point, there have been over 200 consecutive scoreless minutes. The Spanish love to control the ball and make some very calculated moves in the center of the field, and the talent level that is out there is just remarkable. Cesc Fabregas has had to play off of the bench just to get into the midfield, and Jesus Navas has only made two appearances as well. There hasn’t been a lot that we have seen out of Iker Casillas in net, but he has just that one goal to show against him thus far. Fabregas and Fernando Torres both have two goals to their name, but a lot of their work came against the Republic of Ireland in a 4-0 romp. Aside from that, David Silva an Navas have the goals of record.

If Les Bleus wanted a challenge, they certainly have it. This is a young team that is supposed to be on the up and up to challenge a team like Spain, and this is the first chance that the club has had to do one of the toughest deeds in European soccer. Manager Laurent Blanc knows that his side needs to keep up its defensive intensity. If it lets up and concedes a goal, particularly early, there really isn’t a heck of a lot out there to help the team. Karim Benzema and Olivier Giroud are the only two strikers on the roster for Euro 2012, and the best offensive weapon might be Samir Nasri out of the midfield. His goal against England was one of the best goals of Euro 2012, and it might take some magic out of his feet to give France a chance of moving on to the semifinals. Hugo Lloris and his defense are going to be tested by some of the top strikers on the planet, and if Zlatan Ibrahimovic was able to find space against this unit, we can only imagine what Torres and the likes will be able to do as a unit.

William Hill Euro 2012 Banner

Spain vs. France Match Preview & Analysis: That being said, we just don’t know if the ability is there for these two teams to combine for three goals. There can only be one goal if we are to be winners, and in truth, we aren’t so sure if there is going to be that one either. Spain has been a cagey team throughout this tournament, but France can be quite stingy as well. Don’t be surprised if this one goes through at least the first 90 minutes without a strike, and don’t be shocked either if the French can force this one all the way to PKs without a single ball finding the back of the net. If that’s the case, we’ll take our chances with Lloris to get the job done to get the French their biggest victory since winning the 1998 World Cup on their home turf. Still, the easier bet to make in this match is for a low scorer.

Euro 2012 Group D: Ukraine vs. France Tips, Predictions, & Picks

Euro 2012 Ukraine vs. France: Ukraine To Punish French, Move On To Round 2: The Ukraine Euro 2012 campaign officially has the ability to be called a smashing success on Friday afternoon at Donbass Arena if the hosts of the tourney can figure out how to take three points against France. Group D is one of the tighter groups right now in Euro 2012, and it is going to be interesting for sure to see how these teams come out of the blocks in their second match day of Euro 2012. Check out our Euro Cup picks and our Ukraine vs. France betting tips for this outstanding match!

The importance of this match cannot be understated. If there is a winner of this match, that team is going to be in remarkable shape as we move towards the knockout rounds of the tournament. Ukraine will be through with a win. France will be within one more point with a win. A draw for both sides isn’t the end of the world, but the French are setting themselves up for a potential disaster if they only get a point or don’t get anything out of this one. A point parlayed with a win for England over Sweden, and all of a sudden, the distinct possibility of a “wink, wink” draw between England and Ukraine in the final fixture becomes a real possibility. However, Ukraine can’t go lightly in this match, knowing that it is going to need to take at least one point from these two matches with France and England to get into the second round.

This is going to be quite the interesting outing, as there is a big time clash in styles. We know that Ukraine is going to try to keep the crowd in the duel by running up and down the pitch. What we already have seen from the hosts is that no lead is safe. Sweden looked like it was going to get all three points against Ukraine until Andriy Shevchenko came up big with consecutive goals in less than 10 minutes. The argument could be made right now that Shevchenko is the most important man in this tournament, and he is definitely the hero for the hosts. This is an offensive minded team that is going to be all over the pitch for sure, though there are some real questions at the back, especially after letting Zlatan Ibrahimovic run wild at times through the last line of defense.

And then there’s the question about the French offense. We did see Samir Nasir come up with a remarkable run and an even more remarkable finish against England, but aside from that, Les Bleus really didn’t have all that much to be proud of in the fixture from an offensive standpoint. They controlled the share of the possession, keeping the ball for 60 percent of the action, and they had 19 total shots, 15 of which went on net. There weren’t all that many phenomenal chances, though. Statistically, France was probably the best team in Group D four days ago, but that doesn’t mean all that much now that the squad only really has one point to show for its work.

Ukraine vs. France Match Preview & Analysis: The French defense isn’t going to hold Ukraine to just 40 percent of the possession and just one shot on target as it did against England. The Three Lions were a mess that day and really didn’t have most of their powerful offensive players in the fold. The Ukrainians absolutely will. We expect this to be a tight match from the get go, and all the way through, and in the end, we wouldn’t be all that shocked if the host nation ended up stealing three points and a spot in the quarterfinals right at the death to baffle Les Bleus.

2012 Euro Cup Odds & Picks: France vs. England Match Odds & Preview

France vs. England Match Analysis: Les Bleus To Shoot Three Past Three Lions: Which team will win the France vs. England match? Here at Total Soccer Source, we have all of the answers for you in our Euro 2012 preview with predictions of what should be one of the most important Euro 2012 fixtures. These two teams both have high hopes in the first round of this tournament, but both could find themselves getting smashed when push comes to shove if they aren’t careful in this fixture.

Obviously, what’s at stake here is a heck of a lot. Theoretically, this should be the most difficult match in Group D for both of these teams. One would like to think that one team getting three points should be enough to get that squad into the second round of the tournament without all that much in the way of discussion. If there is a loser, all isn’t lost, as wins against Sweden and Ukraine would be enough to get the job done.

In our eyes, we think that the English are in a heck of a lot of trouble. Steven Gerrard is going to be amongst the players that are out on the pitch for the Three Lions that are knocked around, and that doesn’t even include the list of the players that are out of the fold like Frank Lampard that won’t be taking place in this one either. To make matters worse, this is the first major tournament fixture for Manager Roy Hodgson after taking over for the booted Fabio Capello, and he is going to have to go into it without Wayne Rooney, clearly one of his best offensive weapons.

The French aren’t exactly the greatest team in the world right now either, but there is a lot of talent, particular in the back eight or nine that could make a heck of a lot of difference. As always, the Frenchman that you are going to have to look out for is Franck Ribery, who is one of the team leaders in goals for his career with 10. If the English defense breaks down, it could be a heck of a day for Karim Benzema as well, as the 24 year old Real Madrid striker already has 15 goals in just 45 matches for his country.

France vs. England Match Preview & Analysis: England just doesn’t have the goods in this one to get the job done. The Brits just aren’t the better of the two teams on the field, and we know that they have had all sorts of trouble getting blown out of the water in big time matches like this one. We saw it against Germany in the last World Cup, and we very well could see it again now that England is playing against France. Don’t be all that shocked if this turns out to be a wild beating in Ukraine.

France Euro 2012: Handicapping France’s 2012 Euro Odds

Euro 2012 France: Suddenly Talented French Team Could Be In For Greatness: Over the course of the last 14 years, France’s soccer team has done some truly special things. The squad made it to the World Cup Final in 2006, and it was the World Cup champs in 1998 on its home turf. There have been some awful times in the middle though, and this is really the first time since 2006 that the French have been considered one of the big time favorites to win a major tournament at this type of a level.

With two Euro Cup’s already on their mantle, there is no doubt that the French have the pedigree to win this tournament. Long gone are the days of Thierry Henry and Zinedine Zidane, and after years of watching this team just kind of put together a mixture of veterans that were just truly too old for international competition and youngsters that also weren’t ready to play at that sort of a level, the right mixture appears to be in place, and the draw certainly is favorable for this team to be able to get the job done.

Euro 2012 Schedule for France
Monday June 11th: France vs. England 12:00 p.m. (ET) (ESPN)
Friday June 15th: Ukraine vs. France 12:00 p.m. (ET) (ESPN2)
Tuesday, June 19th: England vs. Ukraine 2:45 p.m. (ET) (ESPN)

When the French were really at their best, they were a solid defensive team. Fabien Barthes was one of the best goalies in the world once upon a time, but since he has hung up his boots, the team really has struggled to try to find the right goaltender. It is Hugo Lloris that is going to be the man in the pipes in this tournament, and he has 33 appearances for his country. The good news is that he has an absolutely outstanding defense in front of him, led by Manchester United’s Patrice Evra and Manchester City’s Gael Clichy. There are already a heck of a lot of veterans from some great squads like Lyon, Lille, AC Milan, and Arsenal in the back of the lineup.

The offense though, tends to be in some question, though. The only striker that has any real experience with this team is Karim Benzema. The Real Madrid striker is one of the best young attackers in the game, and he is going to be a fantastic star to watch in this tournament. He might be the only striker that the French utilize at times. The midfield does have some capability, though. Franck Ribery has been around this team for quite some time, and he has 10 goals for his country. Florent Malouda is also a man that is going to have the ability to do some damage assuming that he gets into the lineup with a ton of other great midfielders on the team.

France really has some impressive wins over the course of the last few months in friendly matches. The team destroyed Estonia 4-0 in the last tune up match, and that came right on the heels of a 2-0 win over Serbia. More impressive in these friendlies though, were a 2-1 win in Bremen against Germany and a 1-0 win in Paris against the United States. Remember that France did have a suspect group to get through for qualifying here for Euro 2012, and the toughest team that they probably had to run up against was Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We have seen France ranked as high as No. 1 in the World FIFA Rankings and as low as No. 21. Now, the team is ranked No. 14 coming into this tournament, yet we tend to think that that is just too low of a mark. There is no way that we would consider the French to be below the Russians, who are No. 13, or the Portuguese that are at No. 10. That world ranking could be shooting up here by the end of this tournament.

France 2012 Euro Championship Odds & Predictions: There are a lot of threatening teams in Group D, but in the end, we just don’t think that any of the teams in their current forms are as good as the French are. They should get out of Group D, and if they can find a way to be in the opposite draw of the Spaniards out of Group C, there might legitimately be a chance that they can win the whole thing. France has went from the second favorite to win Group D to a +150 favorite. The French also went from +1800 all the way down to +800 at the outset of the Euro 2012 betting odds.
