Olympics Betting Tips: Who Will Win Japan vs. Morocco Match? 7/29/12

Soccer Betting Tips for Olympics: Japan To Slip To Morocco: Group D is going to be a heck of a group in the soccer Olympics this year, and that was proven right away with the first match day. Now, in a very important clash between two teams that figure to be fighting for one of the two spots in the quarterfinals, Japan will take on Morocco. These two teams don’t have a heck of a lot in common, and that makes our Japan vs. Morocco free picks all the more difficult to make.

Japan knows that if it can get a point out of this match, it should be okay in terms of getting into the Olympics soccer quarterfinals. The team stunned the Spanish with a 1-0 victory on Thursday, and that was one of the biggest victories that this nation has had in quite some time on a soccer pitch, especially off of Japanese soil. Meanwhile, Morocco knows that it is going to need to get at least a result, and potentially three points to be able to get into the second stage of this tournament after a draw against Honduras. If this one results in a loss though, a game against Spain on the horizon really doesn’t seem to bode all that well.

Olympics betting action tends to bring out the most upsets that we see on a regular basis. However, the upset that Japan pulled of Spain on Thursday was definitely one for the ages. Sure, it would have been a lot more notable had the senior Japanese squad taken down the same Spanish side that won the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012, but still, this version of La Roja is definitely not one to slouch about. It shouldn’t be all that surprising that Spain was able to maintain the mass majority of the possession for the game, as that is how the senior side plays as well. However, if you just look at the total shots for the match, a 5-3 victory for the Japanese, you would definitely think otherwise about this fixture. The lone goal of the night wen to Yuki Otsu, the biggest moment of his career for his homeland. The defense was outstanding, and as a result, Shuichi Gonda was never really threatened in net by all that many shots.

William Hill Euro 2012 BannerMorocco looked like it was going to be in a heck of a lot of trouble against Honduras. The team jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a goal by Abdelaziz Barrada in the 39th minute, but within 20 minutes of the restart of the second half, the Hondurans had scored twice to take the lead. The strike of the tournament for the Moroccans to date though, clearly came from Zakaria Labyad, who found the back of the net in the 67th minute to put the match back on terms. Morocco might have been able to get the full three points from this match if not for the fact that one of its defenders, Zakarya Bergdich suffered a red card, leaving it with just 10 men. From there, the squad went into a shell and just tried to get the point. This is a tremendously different match for Morocco though, knowing that there is still a match to play against Spain in the future. Three points almost seem like a pre-requisite, knowing that La Roja isn’t likely to slip up for a second time.

Japan vs. Morocco Match Preview & Analysis: We think that there is some real talent there for Morocco, and that might be good enough to swipe a result against the Japanese. The men from the Land of the Rising Sun could be complacent in this fixture after taking three points in the toughest match of the three, and that could lead to a big problem that puts Japan behind the 8-ball. There could be an upset in the makings on Sunday at St. James Park.
