2012 Olympics Medal Predictions: Sweden vs. France Tips & Picks 8/3/12

Olympics Women’s Soccer Sweden vs. France: Swedes To Pull Off Upset Of French: The women’s quarterfinals on the soccer Olympics schedule continues on Friday morning at Hampden Park, where one of the hotter teams in this tournament, France is going to take on a Swedish side that has really been struggling on both sides of the pitch. Both of these teams are incredibly talented though, and there is no doubt whatsoever that this is a battle on the soccer betting lines that you aren’t going to want to miss out on.

Following an opening match win against South Africa, it really wasn’t a great jaunt through Group F for the Swedes. They did end up topping the group because of that overwhelming 4-1 victory over the African side, but draws in successive matches against Canada and Japan really didn’t do a heck of a lot for the team. Meanwhile, France did pretty much exactly what it was supposed to do, taking care of business against North Korea and Colombia in Group G, but falling to the United States. Still, that game against the Stars and Stripes was one that turned heads right at the outset of this tournament, and the fact that Les Bleus were up 2-0 in that match before conceding four definitely shows that this is a team that has a heck of a lot of talent and can be quite dangerous.

It’s going to be interesting to see whether the Swedes are going to be able to really man the fort against the French attack. Japan is normally a defensive side that doesn’t show a heck of a lot of attack, so that nil-nil final score really shouldn’t be all that surprising. However, we definitely wonder whether the three goals allowed to the combination of Canada and South Africa is a sign of things to come for Sweden. Hedvig Lindahl has already allowed three goals, and she just hasn’t looked all that sharp. On the other end of the pitch, there are six goals to be spoken of, but the two against Canada are really the only two that mattered all that much. Lotta Schelin has clearly been the best attacker of the bunch up front, accounting for eight shots in this tournament, three of which have hit the target, and two of which found the back of the net. It seems like it is time to see Caroline Seger, who has six shots, get on the stat sheet, and she might be one to watch if she can get into the French back with some open space on Friday.

With a whopping 55 shots taken in just three matches, France has the most attempts at target in the Olympics thus far. The combination of Marie-Laure Delie and Louisa Necib up front has been an attacking force for sure, as both have 11 strikes. Necib has yet to score, but she has had a heck of a lot to do in the success of both Delie and Elodie Thomas, both of which have a pair of goals up front. A fourth striker, Gaetane Thiney also has eight shots, though only one, a goal, has come at net. At the back, the defense has had a tendency of being a little thin, especially when you consider the fact that two of the women on the back line have goals already in this tournament. For now, Sarah Bouhaddi has maintained herself for the most part in net, as the only match that Les Bleus conceded a goal in thus far came against the USA when four found the twine.

Sweden vs. France Match Preview & Analysis: In the end, we have to remember that it was only a year ago that these two teams met in the Third Place Game in the World Cup. Sweden was able to get that one by a goal. We think that there is a massive overreaction to the fact that the French have played so well in the group stage, especially with that early advantage against the USA. However in the end, we just don’t know if the level of competition that France faced was nearly as good as that of the Swedes in the first round, taking on Canada and Japan along with South Africa. Go with Sweden to pull off the upset and to get into the semifinals of the Olympics Women’s Soccer Tournament.

Group D Euro Cup Odds: Sweden vs. England Tips & Predicted Results

Sweden vs. England Picks: Three Lions Take Three Points: The England soccer team now knows that it is at a crossroads here in Ukraine Euro 2012. The Three Lions know that they can be in a position to perhaps even win this tournament if they can get three points from this fixture at Kiev Olympic Stadium, though they know that they are going to have a tough task coming against Sweden, a team that has all sorts of potential to do some real damage to some of the best in the world. Don’t miss our England soccer picks against the Swedes for Friday afternoon!

England has just one point to show for its first match, and it wasn’t the prettiest match to say the least. Now though, there is a great chance for the club to take three points here going into the last match with Ukraine next week. The Brits would control their own destiny if they were able to get the job done in this one, knowing that they would be likely be just a draw away from getting into the knockout rounds at that point. Sweden would be eliminated if it were to lose this match though, so you know that the boys in yellow and blue are going to be trying their best to make sure that they at least have something to be playing for on the final match day of the group stages next week.

Sweden has a heck of a lot of infighting going on right now with its squad. The team is largely unhappy with the unorganized defensive effort that came in a 10-minute stretch against Ukraine that saw the club give up two goals very, very quickly to Andriy Shevchenko. If there is a man that can save the day though, it is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He is the best man on this Swedish team and has been for at least a half dozen years or so. Ibrahimovic was able to bag the opening goal in the match against the hosts from Ukraine, but all of a sudden, matters just fell apart after that. Things don’t look good right now, but there has to be some growing confidence with the defense that perhaps this would be a much easier task against a team that doesn’t have its stars or the hometown crowd behind it.

Had you told Manager Roy Hodgson how badly his team was going to be dominated in the opening fixture against France from a statistical standpoint, he certainly would have taken the one point from the fixture. The Three Lions were really a wreck on both sides of the pitch. France had 19 shots, 15 of which reached Joe Hart, who may as well have been the man of the match. There was nothing that he could have done about the goal that Samir Nasri scored for sure, and even though Les Bleus had the share of the possession at 60%, Hart never cracked again. Joleon Lescott had the only shot that reached the target for England, and it happened to end up in the back of the net. There were just three legitimate attempts at goal the entire match for the Motherland, and obviously, there just wasn’t enough in the way of possession to make a big time difference.

Sweden vs. England Match Preview & Analysis: England is still going to be without Wayne Rooney in this one, along with a host of other players that are injured, but the club feels like it has some swagger about it. It almost has to feel like the Brits are relieved just to have a point, and now they can settle down and actually play some footy. The Swedes just don’t feel like a team that is going to get much more to show from their work in this tournament, and we think that it is a gift to know that we can get the English at plus odds. They should get the three points from this match at least half the time, and that’s good enough for us even though this is a team that we still don’t have the utmost confidence in.

Euro 2012 Betting Tips: Who Will Win Ukraine vs. Sweden Match?

Soccer Betting Tips for Euro 2012: Expect More Offense In Group D Finale: Ukraine vs. Sweden Euro 2012 is expected to be one of the more interesting and entertaining fixtures on the slate, as both of these teams have the ability to really light it up, especially in the second halves of duels on the pitch. On Monday afternoon in Ukraine though, it will be the second host nation that is under the most scrutiny, as this is a fixture that the team really has to win, one would think, if it wanted to get out of Group D and into the quarterfinals.

Expect to see both of these teams going for broke, and for good reason on Monday. The best case scenario for the match earlier in the day might be for France to beat England. At that point, Sweden will have a shot to essentially finish the Three Lions off in the next match that the two will play on Friday, and if that is the case for Ukraine, England might have absolutely squat left to play for when push comes to shove on the final match day of the group. That being said, whichever team is the loser of this one knows that it is going to be a tough, uphill battle for either one to get into the second round, and a draw ultimately might not do much for either squad either.

Obviously the first thing that comes to mind when you’re talking about these two teams is the ability to score goals. And of course, when you’re talking about goals, you’re talking about Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the Swedes and Andriy Shevchenko for the Ukrainians. Shevchenko isn’t going to be in the lineup at the start of this match in all likelihood, but if that turns out to be the case, he is likely going to come on as a sub, especially if his team needs some extra offensive firepower after halftime. Ibrahimovic on the other hand, will almost surely be going the whole 90 minutes, and he is always a threat to score for his country when he is on the field.

Defensively, there isn’t a heck of a lot to like on either of these teams. There isn’t a goalie for one of the world’s best on either side, and that has to be worrisome, especially knowing just how many net minders have struggled and struggled mightily over the course of the first few days of Euro 2012. Remember that both Shay Given for Ireland and Petr Cech for the Czech Republic, both of which play their club soccer at one of the highest levels of the sport in the English Premier League ,combined to allow seven goals between them in their opening matches. More goals for sure could have hit the board for Poland, Greece, Spain, and Italy as well, and had shots ended up on target, more goals would be flying in.

Ukraine vs. Sweden Match Preview & Analysis: This is just one of these games where we are convinced that both sides are scoring. Neither one of these defenses is anywhere near quality of any sort, and both offenses have a heck of a lot of strikers and attacking midfielders that have been at the top of their game at this level. In the end, we expect to see plenty of goals – at least three for sure. And, we wouldn’t be all that surprised if this turns out to be one of the highest scoring fixtures of the tournament, especially knowing that Ukraine has been playing these 3-2 games (and the likes) a ton over the course of its friendlies leading up to this fixture.

Euro Cup 2012 Tips & Predictions: Sweden UEFA Euro 2012 Odds

UEFA Euro 2012 Predictions: More Than Zlatan Needed For Swedish Success: Sweden is a team that has had a bunch of ups and downs. The Swedes did finish in third place at the 1994 World Cup and were semifinalists in Euro 1992 on their own soil. They were also quarterfinalists at Euro 2004 in Portugal and made it out of the group stage in the World Cup in 2002 and 2006. Still, there hasn’t been a lot of extended successes for the team in blue and yellow, and this is a tough draw for it to succeed on the Euro 2012 odds as well.

Sweden is ranked No. 17 in the World FIFA Rankings, but we just don’t know if that is going to be enough to get out of this tournament. Group D is going to be a heck of a challenge. Not only do the Swedes have to contend with the hosts of this tournament from Ukraine, but they also have England (ranked No. 6) and France (No. 14). The only good luck is that the match against the Three Lions comes in the second of the three matches, and that means that England will not have Wayne Rooney back in the lineup, as he is serving a two-game suspension.

Sweden Euro 2012 Schedule
Monday June 11th: Ukraine vs. Sweden 2:45 p.m. (ET) (ESPN)
Friday June 15th: Sweden vs. England 12:00 p.m. (ET) (ESPN)
Tuesday June 19th: Sweden vs. France 2:45 p.m. (ET) (ESPN2)

Of course, the first name that comes to mind when you think about Team Sweden and its UEFA Euro Cup chances is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Ibrahimovic has 31 career goals in 77 matches for his country, and he has four goals in this contest in the past. He’s certainly not alone, though. Johan Elmander has 16 goals in his career for Sweden, while in the midfield, Anders Svensson has 18 goals, and Kim Kallstrom has 16 goals. There isn’t a player in either the midfield or the front line that has had fewer than 16 appearances for the Swedes, and Manager Erik Hamren will probably be utilizing all of these players at some point in some respects during the Euro 2012 schedule.

In defense, there is a significantly different situation. Olof Mellberg has played in 114 matches inhis career, but the Olympiakos back liner is now 34 years old and isn’t going to have a heck of a lot of help against some of the fantastic offenses that the Group D fixtures have to offer. In net will be Andreas Isaksson, who has played in seven matches in two European tournaments in the past. He is a solid veteran, but the PSV Eindhoven goalie isn’t going to be the best player in this group for sure. None of the goalies are remarkable in Group D, but this isn’t going to be a tremendous strong suit for Sweden either.

It was a tremendous accomplishment for the Swedes just to make it into this tournament. Group E was a tough, tough qualifying group for this tournament, and with teams like Finland and the Netherlands both in the group, someone solid had to be left home. The Dutch were supposed to be the winners of that qualifying group, but they ended up being the second best team and had to get into Euro 2012 the hard way. The friendlies since that point just haven’t been great for Sweden. Yes, the team has won four matches in a row, but beating Serbia, Iceland, Croatia, and Bahrain just isn’t going to be the same as going against England, Ukraine (on the road), and France.

Sweden 2012 Euro Championship Tips & Predictions: We really do feel bad for Sweden, a team that is +5000 on the Euro 2012 odds at BetOnline.com. The squad is the biggest underdog in Group D at +550, and the least likely to get into the quarterfinals at +200. In perhaps Group A or Group C, this might have been a situation where the Swedes would have had a shot to get into the second round. However, we just don’t know about this group. Without three points against the hosts in the opening match of the tournament, something that is incredibly difficult to accomplish in any major tournament, it is going to be difficult to see the Swedes succeeding.
