Team England Soccer – England vs. Montenegro Live Soccer Predictions

The England soccer team is set for another Euro 2012 qualifying clash on the road, as the Three Lions have to travel to take on Montenegro on Friday.

England knows that it already has the clear inside track to a spot in this year’s competition, gaining 17 points in just seven matches against an overmatched group. This is the final fixture left on the qualifying slate, and a point will ensure that the Three Lions will qualify for the Euros.

Meanwhile, Manager Fabio Capello continues to insist that this is fixture in which he will go after all three points to keep his team going. And it’s no wonder why. Capello is still under all sorts of heat for the relatively early exit from World Cup 2010 in South Africa, and the Three Lions really haven’t had that great of a run in any major competition during his tenure.

It also hasn’t helped that Team England has drawn twice at home in qualification, something that has drawn the ire of the powers that be of English football. This group only consists of second tier teams, with Montenegro, Switzerland, Bulgaria, and Wales trying to knock the Brits off. This Montenegro side was one which picked up a point at Wembley Stadium in a brutal 0-0 draw last October.

Both Steven Gerrard and Rio Ferdinand are going to be left out of the side that travels to Montenegro this week, but there are five strikers that have been chosen for the squad. Wayne Rooney will start, and the possibility is there that men like Frank Lampard, who scored three goals for Chelsea last week in Barclay’s Premier League action, and Scott Parker could be in the fold as well. Both Jermain Defoe and Joleon Lescott are off of the team, but Bobby Zamora has been called up and might be used off of the bench.

Mirko Vucinic is as good as it gets for the Montenegro side, one which is trying desperately to hold on to its European dreams this year. He has two of the team’s five goals on the campaign, which seems awfully minimal considering the fact that it has played six matches and has 11 points to show for it. That means that the defense and net minding has been top notch to say the least. However, the team’s last two matches, a 2-1 loss at Wales and a 1-1 draw at home against Bulgaria and September and July respectively, really probably put a nail in the coffin for qualifying. It’s going to take three points and a heck of a lot of help going forward to make up the difference of goal differential.

The Brits are comfortable half goal favorites on the road at -150, but we tend to think that the Three Lions are going to find a way to mess this match up again. England will get through with its points, but it’ll be considered a moral triumph for Montenegro and a moral defeat for the Three Lions.
